#13 The 1/2 Pill

At breakfast time, next to a little dish that has Lore's pill in it, I put a small note...PLEASE TAKE 1/2 PILL WITH BREAKFAST. ..and she takes the pill. No problem. I don't have to keep reminding her and she doesn't feel like I'm 'telling her what to do'.
After some time,  the dosage of the pill was reduced to 1/4 pill. On the first morning that the 1/4 pill was on the little dish, I carelessly put the same note that I'd used before. Lore examined the pill and looked at the note and then called me over to the table.

"This sign says 'TAKE 1/2 PILL WITH BREAKFAST'." And she pointed to the pill. "That is not 1/2 pill."

Rut row. Houston, we have a problem. How do I get out of this one?
I can't explain to her that "the doctor said" a new dosage.  That might be a problem.... "Why didn't the Doctor tell me?" Even if the Doctor did tell her, she wouldn't remember.

The note is obviously wrong. I totally agreed.... whoever did that.

Lore wrapped up the pill as evidence and confiscated the note so that she could show it to the 'authorities.'

The next day, I put a new note next to the 1/4 pill and the issue with the previous day's note was forgotten.

                                                                 ***
Dear Reader,  I relate these eccentricities of Lore's behavior with the utmost love and respect for her condition.  Sometimes Lore's own inabilities and loss of memory cause her great frustration and confusion. She'll say, "I should know that. That's crazy. I must be stupid." And I tell her "No..... 'Forgetful' is the word. There's a difference. It happens with age." Another time, she realized that some things were slipping away and she said, "I think I should see someone about this."

On one occasion, when she took my arm to walk, she said, "I'm getting old." Then added some words of warning... "Don't let it happen to you. "

Srila Prabhupada always warns us about the dangers of birth, death, disease, and....... old age.
